Winners of the First Global Redis Modules Hackathon announced by Redis Labs

Scores of developers from 31 countries participated to develop innovative Redis modules

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif, December 7, 2016 at 04:58 a.m. PT

Today, Redis Labs, the home of Redis, announced the winners of the 2016 Global Redis Modules Hackathon bringing new Redis modules to the developer community.

The following winners were selected from a shortlist of 17 submissions:

A total of $10,000 in cash prizes were awarded to the above winners. “Reji” module, a JSON indexed store by Alexey Kobozev and Ilan Bronshtein (https://github.com/akobozev/reji), and “ReDe” dehydrated data module by Adam Lev-Libfeld (https://github.com/TamarLabs/ReDe) rounded out the top five submissions. “PopRank” module for popularity ranking by Sanket More, Louis Valencia, Matthew Kerns and Brian Hoang (https://github.com/SanketMore/PopRank) received honorable mention for effort and design while “Shared Memory support for Redis” by Edgars Irmejs (https://github.com/edgarsi/redis-module-shm) was recognized for being extra hacky.

“We thank all the participants of this hackathon and congratulate the winners, but the real winner is every user in the Redis community. We were delighted to see the high level of interest and quality of effort by developers from around the world in this inaugural event for Redis modules,” said Itamar Haber, Chief Developer Advocate at Redis Labs. “Redis modules’ development pace continues to increase as developers realize the power in using the fastest database for solving complex challenges with their own custom logic.”

Launched globally online on Oct. 17, with onsite events held on Nov. 11, in San Francisco and Tel Aviv, the Hackathon submissions ended on Nov. 25. The judging panel consisted of Salvatore San Filippo, Pedro Melo, Francois-Guillaume Ribreau, Dvir Volk and Itamar Haber. Scoring of the submissions was primarily based on innovation, originality, usefulness and potential market impact.

Redis modules seamlessly plug into open source Redis or enterprise-class Redis for super high performance, infinite scalability and high availability. For more information on the Redis modules, visit: redismodules.com. For more information on Redis Labs, visit: redislabs.com.
